Warming up with writing games

Speed writing, collaborative writing/drawing, alliterative writing, associative writing,
wish-lists,
comparitive lists,
rhyming poetry,
free verse ....
these are some of the fun ways to help us warm up for a productive writing session.
We've had seven writers attending the WOW sessions so far:
Madhu,
P'Leah,
Yvonne,
Tina,
 Soe Son di,
Buket,
and Yaren.
All of these writers identify with more than one culture, so we are learning a lot about how life can be lived so differently in different countries.

Writing is a journey of discovering new things about ourselves and about our friends, families, our fellow WOW writers, our town and country. The WOW sessions are about feeling free to write as much as we can, without being held back by worrying about spelling or punctuation or grammar. Wow is about writing about things that are important to us, and getting the words which fly around randomly inside our brains to flow freely out onto the paper provided, whichever way it works!

This project is exciting for the WOW writers for many reasons, but the most exciting reason is that their writing will go up on the walls of Horsham in permanent stainless steel installations, to be read over and over again by the people of Horsham for years to come!

Invitation!

Hi. I'm Mars Drum, local artist and producer of the WOW project.
The WOW writing workshops are free, and they're starting next Tuesday, 12th April, from 3.45 - 5.30pm. Tuesday workshops will be held at 28 Urquhart st in Horsham.

Next month I will be adding Thursday workshops into the project as well as Tuesdays. Thursday workshops will be held at Mibus Studios, which are located upstairs at the Horsham Library, 28 McLachlan St, Horsham. Both locations are at street number 28, to make everything a bit easier to remember.

If you  * identify with another culture
           * are aged between 10 and 18 years
           * can make your way to the two locations listed above on Tuesdays and Thursdays
           * have a thing for writing eg. lyrics, diary, poetry, letters etc.
then I am inviting you  to come along to the WOW workshops and be a part of this amazing public art project in Horsham.
WOW stands for Writing on the Walls, and over a period of two terms, we need to come up with 15 separate pieces of writing on the theme of "connecting to place", to be permanently installed in stainless steel on public sites around the main street of Horsham, ie. Firebrace St. Even if you cannot speak English, and someone else is reading this to you, you are very welcome. I have experience in teaching English as a foreign language, also in running free writing clubs, also in using Google translate!
